Friends. Romans. Countrymen. You know you were looking for something to distract you from unloading the dishwasher. Happy to help.
Welcome to my online home, recently consolidated from three blogs and multiple social media accounts, in an effort to stop being so freaking hodge podge about my interests and just smash them up here together. I like to write words and songs. I like coffee. And some other things, as you'll see below. I'm sure it will make sense eventually. Thanks for hanging in while that happens.
Thanksgiving is my everything. This year I'm just tenting the backyard with twinkly lights because so many awesome people are coming we will otherwise blow out the room with all the fabulous. My mother in law will be there telling everyone about the Steelers game, my sister will be there asking me for another cocktail, and my bff (who is even more food obsessed than I am) is coming for the first time ever which is going to be EPIC. I don't care about being grateful or idealistic on Thanksgiving. You don't have to come with some bullshit idea of world peace and talk about it. We're there to EAT and DRINK and be SO drunk on amazing food and conversation you're good until next year.
Places I'd recommend you sock a few dollars away this season:
The GoFundMe college account for Sgt La David T Johnson's small children which I think is the most beautiful form of patriotism we've seen since the presidential election.
Dawn and Blackberries which is about my first love and the road by his house... sigh....
Stuff I Bet You Will Like which I made for a friend and then it morphed into the best thing ever. Started out very strategic but then my understanding of the recipient evolved along with our friendship so now it's all over the place.
Natural Napper very standard Amy fare, good for cleaning the house, cooking, going for a skate, and feeling concerned about making better life choices. Dreamy and optimistic but still a little sad.
Things I'm Planning for Winter:
Digging a large hole in Wyoming in which my whole family can hide when Mike Pence comes to round us up.
Doing our first annual Road Trip Xmas, a holiday I loathe but my wife won't let us celebrate Hanukkah anymore because she feels that it's cultural appropriation which I think is a fair argument considering I'm like 1% Ashkenazi but I've spent my entire adult life celebrating and feeling very connected to Jewish holidays and being very wrapped up in the tradition and beauty of them so Hanukkah as a family holiday with the kids felt much more meaningful and sweet, and it's very hard for me to let that go or consider it off the table particularly considering that Hanukkah is largely a "placeholder" holiday and is not religious... This is obviously a much longer story involving the fact that our children have Hebrew names and my best friend converted Orthodox and it's all very complicated and personal, ahem.
ANYWAY this goyem road trip will involve TONS of chosen family, namely all the awesome cousins my kids haven't seen in forever. We will eschew gift giving and opt for visceral experience, fulfilling my wife's long-held fantasy about driving to Mexico just because one can.
Working on a few new songs. One great very sweet one I wrote for someone I thought was family but turned out to be not-so, and I have no idea how to finish the damn thing without just changing everything to minor chords.
